One Minute Speaking Activity

I’m this activity we are able to test the mastery of the pre-service teachers in their particular subject matters. Sir Gerome Bautista, our supervising instructor, intends to test our knowledge of the various subject matters of our respective specializations in one minute. I was assigned the “color wheel” topic. I was so nervous at first that all I could think about was wheels, wheels about cars, and other types of wheels. But then the light bulb switch on, and I remember that the color wheel is made up of primary, secondary, and tertiary colors. That’s when I started spewing answers out of my mouth; I stated the primary colors, which are red, blue, and yellow, but by mistake, I added green to my answer on primary colors, which was obviously a mistake, and then I stated the primary colors. Green, orange, and violet. At that point, I can’t remember the tertiary colors, and my one minute is up. I was relieved that, despite using only the stock knowledge from my grade school lessons, I was able to come up with an answer. Following our supervising instructor’s comments, I was able to sit down contentedly and happily.

Calligraphy Writing

Before our deployment in the in campus one of our activity is the calligraphy writing. We were task to manually write a story on a manila paper using a marker. At first i find difficulty because i cannot properly write the letter consistently because I knew from the very start that I have a “very good penmanship” which I wish. I was getting mad but later on when I was on the middle part on the story I realize something. As pre-service teacher having a good calligraphy is something of an edge. Teacher can put them in many different use to create personalize and creative masterpiece of instructional materials. These encourage learners to improve also their penmanship and motivates them to learn more.

Five Day Seminar on Preparing, Revitalizing and Equipping Pre-service Teachers

Sir Seigfred John G. Ballesteros spoke at our session on the essentials of productivity tools on January 24, 2023. In the first section, he prompted us to consider the quote “Our world has always been a race between technology and education.” He emphasizes that technology and education should go hand in hand, with innovation and progress in technology mirroring that in education. We should not just concentrate on technology advancements, but also on educational advancements that aim to generate competent learners. He outlines the various benefits, examples, problems, and advantages of productivity tools, as well as the criteria to consider while selecting productivity tools. What I didn’t forget was the productivity tool he introduced to us, ClassPoint. It is a tool that teachers can utilize, particularly if they wish to make their discussions more engaging.

On January 25, 2023, one of my favorite teachers covers the Art of Questioning. Even though she was only my first-year college teacher, I will never forget her. Her name is Zayda S. Asuncion, and she was an inspiration worthy of imitation. And I believe her enthusiasm for teaching makes her popular with her students, of whom I was one. Because the day of our seminar happened to be her birthday, we pre-service teachers surprised her with a cake and a balloon. Some of my students also spoke to ma’am, which made the majority of us in the seminar cry.

I learned the distinction between localization, indigenization, and contextualization during our contextualization seminar. In our class, we will determine whether a certain circumstance is localizing, indigenizing, or contextualizing. It was initially perplexing. According to what we’ve learned, localization is the process of relating curriculum learning content to local information and materials from the learners’ community, whereas indigenization is the process of improving curriculum competencies, education resources, and teaching-learning processes in relation to the bio-geographical, historical, and socio-cultural context of the learners’ community. And, from what I gather, contextualization is thinking about something in its context, which might help students see how they can use what they have learned in their life.

Teaching Demonstration 1 in In-Campus: Five Fundamental Positions of Arms and Feet MAPEH 5

After our observation in and reconstruction of lesson plans of all the subjects of Grade 6 St. Lorenzo. I have decided to test my abilities in teaching. I decided to start my teaching demonstration so that I can finish it earlier. I consulted Sir Louie Burgos, my cooperating teacher to get subject matter and without question, he brings out his laptop and started to search the continuation of lessons. I was ask if I would like to teach PE-Dance. At first, I was a little bit hesitant because I wonder if I were able to successfully teach the subject matter because I really don’t know how to dance at all. But it didn’t stop me, I carved it in my mind that “to be a teacher he/she must master all his subject matter”. This was only a challenge for me, without further ado I immediately agree. He gave me the subject matter of “Five Fundamental Positions of Arms and Feet in Folk Dance”. What I appreciated in my cooperating teacher is that, with initiative provided me the template and sample to be my reference. Because its my first time to do a PRIME lesson plan, I found a hard time starting the lesson plan and conceptualizing what strategy best suits my learners specially I will be teaching with three different sections with different distinguishable characteristics and attitude. Later on I was able to start and eventually finish it within 4 hours of thinking. He eventually checks in in hard copy form the next morning and I was joyful because he commented that my method used in planning are appropriate to the learners. With few minor revisions needed, I consulted my cooperating teacher and schedule my teaching demonstration. He told me that my lesson needs to be teach in 2-day period for learners to fully understand the lesson. Having mix emotions at first, I was felt chills thinking if it would go as plan. I just continue to teach my lesson with all the three sections of Grade 5. The lesson went smooth as planned and the learners were able to learn the steps. The following day we continue with their individual performance task. All the learners where able to combine the dance steps and perform with matching music. After the delivery of lessons, we have a conversation with my CT and he gave tips and techniques that can be utilize for my next teaching. He has said a lot of positive feedbacks and I felt euphoric knowing that my first teaching was successful and full of learning.

Teaching Demonstration 2 in In-Campus: Energy Transformation in Simple Machine Science 6

One of my regular teaching demonstration is when I teach Science among the three sections in grade 6. I was given the topic of Energy Transformation in Simple Machines. This would probably one of the most memorable teaching and learning process I ben through. I always been so happy to teach Science for the very reason that its been my favorite subject since elementary. When I was given a topic I was very excited to start my lesson plan. I was given a day for it to finish so I started immediately. After I finish it, I made a hard copy of it and passed it to my cooperating teacher for checking. Then I wait the whole day, right after when I was about to leave the school she called me to discuss my lesson plan. That’s the time that I knew im going to learn a lot from her. First thing first she corrected my teaching style that I applied in making my lesson plan. Due to my previous teaching demonstration in my CT (cooperating teacher) i get to used to his teaching style in MAPEH which is very different with the teaching style needed in teaching science. She told me that in order to properly execute lesson she strongly suggest to use the Inquiry Based Learning Method. In these approach in emphasizes the importance of asking questions, seeking answers, and experimenting with new ideas rather than simply receiving information from the teacher. These encourage learners to take an active role in their own learning. I followed what my teacher suggested and revised my lesson plan immediately. I was now ready to teach after my CT in science check my revised LP and gave me the go signal. I prepared my needed instructional materials and prepared myself the night before. The following day, the teaching demonstration went very smooth in the first and second section they were very participative and I really saw the effectiveness of the method as I followed his instructions and suggestions (kudos to ma’am Reggie), however in the last section I did have a hard time delivery my lesson. They were very passive and most of them are very stubborn. I find ways to continued my teaching despite the situation. I felt so euphoric that my second demonstration was finally finish and I was praise so much by my CT in science specially knowing my CT to have a high standard in teaching. My CT said to me that I was ready for final demonstration as well as strongly recommended for deployment in the out campus. I felt very happy knowing my effort paid off.

Final Demonstration in In-Campus: Skills Involve In Playing Badminton MAPEH 5

Lucky enough I had a good cooperating teacher that really guide me in my teaching internship at Saint Mary’s University Grade School. I really didn’t expect that I will be the first BEED student to have his final demonstration teaching and the first student teacher to finish 15 hours of teaching in SMU-GS which what we need to finished in the laboratory school where we are deployed.
When other teachers came to know that I will already be having my final demonstration they really got amazed and even game me a lot of compliments when I already finished it. My topic for my final demonstration teaching is “badminton” the sport that I personally love to play. So, I prepared all the things that I needed for my final demo including the court where I will let my students have an actual experience on how to play badminton. For I don’t know reason I really don’t feel anything like being nervous or exited before having my final demonstration teaching as I think it is also just a normal teaching day. It’s just that I feel like I was really an employed teacher or a REAL teacher.
It is tiring to have a final demonstration teaching but at the end of the day I feel glad that I finish my final demostration teaching successfully. I even learn a lot of things from the advices that my cooperating teacher and our supervising instructor gave me which really help me as I was able to become aware on what aspect of my teaching I need to improve/develop so that next time my teaching could be better.
I am fully aware that my final demonstration teaching is not the end of my journey as an intern as their could be lot more. I am looking forward to what will happen to me when we student teachers will be deployed in public school.

School Tour in Our Respective Out-Campus Schools

First Day in the Out-Campus (April 3, 2023)

In our first day in our respective off-campus school we were called on stage for the introduction of teacher interns from Saint Mary’s University. At first I was so nervous because I know from the very start the expectation were to high. In the introduction were ask to introduce our name, course, and expectation on the school. After the introduction the children sang a welcome song that they have prepared earlier. Ma’am Marietta the principal gave her final speech and gratitude for choosing Bayombong South Elementary School for our learning grounds in the Teaching Internship Program. After which, the learners and teachers dispersed to their classrooms and continue the day as before.

Local Demo: Kathang-isip at Di-kathang Isip Observed by Principal Marietta Ma. Purita P. Dummanao

I did it! For days I haven’t slept well thinking and planning the right materials, techniques, methods for my second local demonstration. It will be observed by our respective principal of our off-campus school Bayombong South Elementary School.

At first I was planning to chose English subject for my local demo but I hesitated because I anticipate the abilities of my learners. Frankly speaking I was a little bit disappointed to my leaners because some of them are not quite well in terms of English grammar and vocabulary. Some of them can’t even read properly the word “human being” and sometime it makes me furious as I correct their pronunciation.

Last week Thursday I finally decided to choose Filipino as they excel much in answering in their mother tongue which is the Filipino language. My cooperating teacher, ma’am Maria Theresa V. Cabalteja or “Ma’am Tessa” in short let me choose any the subject matter in Filipino as long as it’s under quarter four. He let me choose the subject matter for me to have the confidence in delivering the lesson. Friday morning, I finally finish it and submitted to my cooperating teacher for checking and she made a lot of corrections. She emphasized that in planning my lesson it should be student-centered as most of the activities should done by the learners. She even corrected the slightest mistakes and sometimes she finds grammatical errors in my sentences, and I felt a little embarrassment. She points out that PPT presentation should be reduce as learners are proven to be bored and less participative when the lesson it delivered using only PPT. Ma’am Tessa added that instead of PPT I must find a way in presenting the story creatively. That’s the time we come up with the idea in using a movie box. Learners are more participative if they see abundant and unique IM’s as it drives their curiosity and interest in learning the lesson. I finally inserted what my CT suggestions and organized my materials. As I finished it Friday lunch, I was ready now in passing to ma’am Marietta our principal for final checking.

I was reminded before that ma’am Marietta has the reputation of strict checking of lesson plan. Before passing to her every content of the lesson must bow to a harmony. Methods should be appropriately levelled with the skills and knowledge of the learners. Content and performance standards must be aligned with the lesson. Learning competency should be appropriately stated even the subjects that will be integrated must be indicated in the lesson plan. I polished my lesson plan and eventually we ended up on Monday for her to check our lesson plan because she was not available that day. I just continue in making my IM’s without her checking it.

Saturday evening, I started making the movie box as it was most difficult and time consuming to make. I already have an idea on how to make one because I made one back in junior high school so making it not new to me anymore. It took me 2 days straight and a lot of money to finally finish it. I started Saturday night and finally finish it Sunday evening around 11:30 pm. I was already exhausted, mentally, physically, and financially. I haven’t eaten breakfast, lunch, and dinner, only biscuits and light snacks as am thinking that I am going to waste time having a meal instead of continuing. In the middle of making, in my mind I was thinking that all this effort I exerted to this IM. This should be worth it or else all of this will  going be wasted. 2 days of none stop for a 2-minute presentation. I never think twice again as I believe myself that this will going to work. After putting the finishing touches I proceeded to make my other IM’s such as the tarpapel. It’s already 2:00 in the morning and I know my body can’t make it anymore so I decided to go to sleep. I wake up 7:30 to went to school for final checking. Ma’am Marietta finally check our LP’s and gave tips and points out the things that we should remember in delivering the lesson. She made comments on my lesson plan but nonetheless she points out minor errors. The thing that I appreciated most to ma’am Marietta is how she wanted us to really learn and practice the appropriate techniques in teaching, she even provided me story books for my generalization for met to made it as an example. With the corrections she made I adjusted and inserted all the corrections under the learning competencies. Now, my lesson plan is done, its time to finish my unfinished IM’s. As soon as a got home, I immediately started, I print all the word that will be needed for my discussions. Its already 1:30 when I was finally finished. I put my alarm to 5:00 and went to sleep.

5:00 am in the morning and my alarm rang, I immediately got up, takes a bath, fixed my things, polish my shoes, and organized my IM’s. I went to school and immediately started to paste on the board the IM’s needed. I practice myself and recall all the sequence on the lesson until the bell rang. 8:00 am in the morning and ma’am Marietta shows up at the door. I maintained my composure as I inhale and exhaled. Ma’am Marietta gave the signal and I proceed to my lesson. To my very surprise the lesson went smoothly. I remember that there are times that I choke myself speaking in Filipino, but I just continued anyways. I finish my lesson without interruption, I was overjoyed because all the learners are so participative. I had seen their reaction which upon seeing the movie box, they were very exited and willing to recite. After the lesson, ma’am Marietta and I had a conversation. She appreciated my skills in teacher on how I elicited the answers that are HOTS drive and relate the lesson to life lesson. She makes a lot of positive comment I was overwhelmed that I was just smiling when she was asking me question. She also made comments on the things that needs improvements. She congratulated me as well as my cooperating teacher. I just felt euphoria that all my effort turn to something worth a lifetime experience
